Killalea Beach

Surfers from all across the region flock to Killalea Beach. This excellent surfing beach, nicknamed “The Farm” by locals, is located within Killalea State Park. On June 6, 2009, Killalea was designated as a National Surfing Reserve. As a result, “The Farm” is a designated surfing location.

The park, on the other hand, has wonderfully designed picnic spaces with barbecues and public conveniences for the whole family to enjoy. The park also has jungle and coastal walking trails and is close to Shellharbour Village and Bass Point Reserve.

250 hectares of beautiful coastal reserve with outstanding surfing beaches make up the state park. It has breathtaking vistas in all directions and a variety of public recreation amenities that are environmentally friendly.

Surfing, fishing (from rock, beach, and river), and picnicking are all popular recreational activities in the park. The camping area has unpowered campsites, as well as a camp kitchen, laundry, clean amenities, and a bunkhouse.

The bunkhouse can hold up to 35 people, making it ideal for large groups. Within the park, there is a cafe that serves breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.

The State Park has camping sites with bathrooms, showers, a camp kitchen, and electric grills, and both Killalea Beach and Mystics Beach are approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the camping site.

There aren’t many places to stay or camp near the beach. Because it is part of the Killalea State Park, the government is doing everything it can to preserve its natural beauty.

Reflections Killalea Reserve is a welcome getaway for anyone seeking a much-needed catch up with nature, located just minutes from the lively restaurants and activities of Shellharbour.

When you camp at Reflections Killalea Reserve, where green rolling hills give way to blue rolling seas and a picturesque setting that’s great for your next coastal trip on the NSW south coast, you may carve it up or just relax out.

In this gorgeous coastal playground, find a grassy space, then pull up the caravan or hammer in the tent pegs.

All you have to do now is decide how much (or how little) action you want to get out of your vacation. Grab a board and hit the waves in Killalea’s National Surfing Reserve. Enjoy a meal prepared in the camp kitchen, or try your luck with the bait and learn why this area is known for its excellent fishing.

You can do a little or a lot. In any case, you’ll be glad you went camping at Killalea; it’s a special location to bond with the people who matter most while experiencing the various beauties of nature.

Note : This State Park is not dog friendly. So make sure not to bring your dog, and if you want to then be sure to find other staying options.

Things To Do At Killalea Beach

  • Surfing

Killalea Beach

The majority of visitors to Killalea come to surf. It boasts a distinctive south-east facing location and a year-round point break with exceptionally steady surf. It’s also becoming increasingly popular among stand-up paddle boarders.

The surf is being enjoyed by surfers and a paddle boarder. Even when the conditions are bad elsewhere, Killalea Beach gets a good swell almost the entire year. What’s not to like about crystal pure water?

A nice stack is a must-have for any surfer. Fortunately, there are no underwater rocks or corals at Killalea, so you can tumble off the board without fear of injury.

  • Family Friendly

There’s a nice kids’ playground and shaded places, so it’s a great spot to take your family to get some fresh air and take in the spectacular views.

  • Relaxing

On most days, The Farm is completely deserted. You can spend an entire day at the beach without hearing or seeing anyone. Nature’s colours are absolutely amazing, and they look even better in person than they do in photos.

It’s an isolated beach where you’ll only see surfers in the sea and no one sunbathing on most days. As a result, you’ll have the entire beach to yourself to relax or enjoy a picnic while taking in the scenery.

Waves, wind, birds, crystal clear green-blue ocean, and yellow beach. At The Farm, there will be no trash bags, cigarette butts, or coffee cups on the sand or in the water. Beautiful scenery.

It’s a great area to sit in your shorts on the sand and watch the waves gently flow over you. On a hot day, this is quite refreshing and effective.

  • Walking

The Killalea Kiosk carpark has steps leading down to the beach. They just keep going and going.

You may appreciate the scenery and take in all of the vistas that The Farm has to offer as you stroll down. When you’re ready to start climbing, the steps take on a new meaning: they’re difficult to walk up and a terrific challenge to race up (I attempted, did it and was completely puffed out by the end).

There are some fantastic walking pathways for people of all fitness levels. The trails connect Killalea beach to other portions of the Killalea state park, and are one of the best places on the South Coast for bushwalking.

  • Explore Around

Whatever your interests are, you will find lots to do. There includes wildlife, walking trails, and exercise space. Killalea State Park and the neighbouring beaches are well-protected by the local authorities.

Despite being only an hour’s drive from Sydney, it feels as if no one has ever been here before. There were no footsteps, no noise, and no people. You can appreciate the lovely patterns left on the sand by the sea. And you can even collect seashells that the water has thrown up on the shore.

  • Enjoy Nature’s Beauty

Flowers and trees abound in Killalea Beach. Stunning colours and scents can be found all year. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll never want to go. The blooms that you will see there will take your breath away.

The waves are always coming in, and there is seldom a crowd. Due to the consistently wonderful weather, this is an ideal location. You must, however, exercise caution because there is no lifeguard on duty. The beach in Killalea is unguarded.

  • Sitting On The Rocks

The experience of sitting on the rocks is unique. You have the impression that you are a part of the sea. The waves slamming in front of you are surrounded by water. I sat for around 20 minutes, resting and connecting with my surroundings.

When there is an ocean in front of you, everything appears to be extraordinary. Near the carpark, there is a food kiosk as well as various covered spaces where you may sit down, order food, and get a drink.

Mystics Beach is a neighbouring beach to Killalea that you should absolutely visit while you’re here. It’s also a lovely location. They are both part of the Surfing Reserve and are connected by a road.
