This port city, which is located on the banks of Lake Erie and the Portage River, is one of my favourite family vacations since it offers entertainment for people of all ages.
Water sports abound, from boating to fishing and paddling, because it is located on the shores of a lake. My family enjoys exploring Port Clinton’s beaches and islands.
Hiking routes go to a variety of beautiful locations. Picnic areas with beautiful views of the lake entice families to eat lunch and enjoy the scenery.
As if the natural beauty weren’t enough, the city of Port Clinton also offers one of the country’s largest and best amusement parks.
We plan a day at Cedar Point Amusement Park and another at the Water Park when we visit Port Clinton on vacation.

The African Wild Life Safari
The African Wild Life Safari is a drive-through safari that allows you to get up and personal with the park’s more than 500 animals. Zebras, llamas, camels, and giraffes are among them.
Upon entering the park, each visitor is given a ladle of animal feed. The park’s animals feed straight from the cup. Birds, bison, and gigantic tortoises can all be fed by hand here.
After you’ve completed the drive-through, get out of your car and wander around a zoo-like environment. Birds, a kangaroo, and an albino alligator can all be found here. There are also camel rides available.
If you’re visiting the park with kids, make sure to leave time to visit the Monsoon Lagoon Water Park. This is the city’s sole outdoor waterpark.
They’ll be begging for more with the slick slides and treehouse surrounded by cold, blue water. Adults will enjoy the rides as well. Play go-karts on multiple levels, 18-hole mini-golf, or go gem mining.
Book a 2-hour Junior Zookeeper event for kids to learn how to feed and care for animals.
The park is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The admission gates close one hour earlier. The cost of admission varies depending on the season.
Visit Catawba Island, State Park
Visit Catawba Island State Park, which is one of the top things to do in Port Clinton, Ohio. The fresh air along the banks of Lake Erie is perfect for a great day out.
It is a peninsula, not an island, that the Park is located on. A fishing pier, picnic spots, launch pads, and restrooms are available. Lake Erie’s shallow waters are accessible via broad pebble beaches.
Explore the Great Lake’s beaches in a kayak or on a paddleboard. The magnificent limestone cliffs that line the shore will provide spectacular vistas.
Hikers and cyclists can find plenty of pathways in the 10-acre park.
Explore Liberty Aviation Museum
Looking for more enjoyable activities in Port Clinton, Ohio? The Liberty Aviation Museum is a great place to visit.
The Liberty Aviation Museum, located at the Erie Ottawa International Airport, pays homage to aviation and military history. There’s a whole section dedicated to WWII here, including the bomber Georgie’s Girl, which was built in 1945.
Ambulances, WW2 jeeps, and replica tanks are among the vehicles on display. The museum also includes a German field kitchen. Some of the memorabilia changes with the seasons, so there’s always something new to see.
A Ford Tri-motor is now being built at the museum, and visitors may observe how these planes were manufactured using the original jigs.
There is also some film memorabilia on display at the museum. Before you embark on your next excursion, stop by the on-site Tin Goose Diner for a 1950s-style lunch.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Adults pay $10, while children under the age of six pay $8. Children under the age of five are admitted for free.
Grab Local Favorite Toft’s Ice cream
When we decided to visit Ohio, everyone advised us to get some Toft’s ice cream. So that’s what we did.
Toft’s ice cream is smooth and creamy, and it’s easy to find. Because Toft’s farm has been in Ohio since the early 1900s, everyone recognises the name and can promptly direct you to the nearest parlour. We were relieved to discover a parlour across the street from our Port Clinton motel, the Holiday Inn Express.

Take A Boat Ride To Kelley’s Island
Take a boat to Kelley’s Island, where Native Americans previously lived. The petroglyphs on the sandstone cliffs, aptly titled Inscription Rock, provide proof of these ancient people. During the War of 1812, the island was used as a military garrison.
The island has only a few permanent residents, but thousands of tourists visit each year to appreciate the natural beauty. The island contains a tiny village, as well as beautiful sandy beaches, parks and camping areas, and numerous hiking, bicycling, and birding routes.

Port Clinton Lighthouse

Nature has been kind to the island. The aquamarine water surrounds the woodland beaches. If you’re still looking for things to do in Port Clinton, Ohio, make a point of visiting one of the many restaurants, cafes, or pubs that overlook the beautiful port.
The marina is lined with yachts and speed boats in an inexhaustible supply. Almost every amenity on the island is intended to delight and entertain the guests who visit.
Nature is never far away at lakeside beaches and state parks. For something unusual, take a tour through a wine cave. Play 18 holes of miniature golf or charter a fishing boat.
Why not take a tour train and see all of the island’s attractions for some true family fun? You’ll take an hour-long ride in an open carriage, where you’ll be able to enjoy the lakeside wind.
Perry’s Victory and International Peace Museum
Pay a visit to the International Peace Museum, which is flanked by a 35-foot Doric tower. From the summit of the 352-foot monument, take in the vista. There is no need to climb because an elevator will carry you up.
At the visitor’s centre, you can learn about the monument’s history. It was constructed to celebrate America’s triumph in the War of 1812 and to honour eternal peace between the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Marble Head Lighthouse
Visit the Marble Head Lighthouse if you get the opportunity. It was just meticulously refurbished. Climb the 77 stairs to the summit of the tower for a spectacular view. Learn about the lighthouse’s history in the museum.
Alongside the lighthouse is a magnificent reproduction of a historic lifesaving station. It depicts the experience of rescuing persons in trouble on the lake. The Keepers House, completed in 1880, is located on the property.
The 9-acre Marble Head Lighthouse State Park is home to the lighthouse. It boasts a beautiful view of the lake. Take a picnic lunch to the picnic areas overlooking the lake.
The Marblehead Lighthouse is the United States’ oldest continually operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes. It has been in operation since 1822.
Between the hours of 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., the lighthouse is open for tours. Anyone over the age of 10 will be charged $3 to tour.
Toledo Museum of Art
The Toledo Museum of Art has a lot of interesting things to see. The museum was founded at the turn of the century by glassmaker Edward Drummond Libby with the goal of making art accessible to the general public.
There are 45 galleries in this 280,000-square-foot museum. Over 30,000 works of art are on display in the museum. The museum is home to a substantial collection of glass art. It also has a significant collection of European and American art, including works by Rubens, van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Holbein, among others.
The museum is free to enter, in keeping with the founder’s objective of making art accessible to everyone. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the museum is closed. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, it is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays, it is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Cedar Park Resort
The Cedar Park Resort, located just a mile from Lake Erie, is an ideal setting for a night or a week of camping. You can rent a cabin, park your RV, or set up camp here. The resort has more than 300 campsites.
Showers, bathrooms, a launder, a gift shop, and a grocery store are just some of the modern amenities available at the resort.
There are three heated pools on site, as well as shuffleboard and basket ball courts. There’s also a relaxing outdoor lounge where you may meet and mingle.
